Raphael Ebgi

Dr. Raphael Ebgi is Scientific Collaborator at the Università della Svizzera Italiana, Lugano. He has previously been Research Associate (2013-2018) at the Jewish Institute of the Freie Universität, Berlin. He earned his B.A. (2008) and his M.A. (2010) in Philosophy at the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Milano.

Dr. Ebgi is the author of a two-volume study on the history and philosophy of Italian Humanism. The first volume, co-authored with Giulio Busi, is a monograph dedicated to the life and thought of Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, one of the most influential authors of the Renaissance, entitled Giovanni Pico della Mirandola: Mito, Magia, Qabbalah (Einaudi 2014). The second, Umanisti Italiani. Pensiero e Destino (Einaudi 2016, with an essay by Massimo Cacciari), is a comprehensive anthology of edited and unedited texts by humanist thinkers. A forthcoming book focuses on the philosophy of pleasure in the Renaissance.

He has also edited the first critical edition of the De Ente et Uno, a philosophical treatise by Giovanni Pico della Mirandola (Bompiani 2010). Currently he is working on a book dedicated to the relationships between Jewish mystical tradition and Christian culture in Modern Europe.

Dr. Ebgi is a member of the scientific committee of several international research centres, among which the “International Centre of Culture Giovanni Pico della Mirandola” and the “European Research Centre in History and Theory of the Image”. He is also a member of the editorial board of international journals of philosophy, such as “Philosophical Readings” and the “Critical Journal of the History of Ideas”.
